Finding the Magic in Small Moments

Oakwood Public Market’s director of operations Ryan Schibi

“We want Oakwood to be your third place — where small moments turn into big memories.”

What’s a “third place?”

It’s that go-to spot after home and work. A sanctuary where you feel welcome and part of something. Where you can take that big exhale, blowing away the day’s stress.

My approach to hospitality

It’s about creating “wow” moments. I’m at a point in my career where I want to be proud of what I’m doing and what I’m able to create. I’ve worked for some great places, and I plan to bring the best of each experience to Oakwood.

Years ago, just before Halloween, a young family came into the theater where I worked. They were dressed as Jack, Wendy and the eerie twins from The Shining, ready to take a photo on our patterned carpet that matched the movie’s famous hallway. But minutes earlier, the display had been swapped out to promote a new release.

I asked them for 15 minutes, rolled the carpet image back out and wrestled it into place. It took some precarious balancing on a ladder, but it was worth it. For that family, it became a memory they’ll always keep. That’s what I want to create here — moments that stick.

Bringing back creativity to Oakwood

Everything we do — who we hire, what we dream up, how the space feels — is about making Oakwood the kind of spot that just clicks. I want people to leave feeling lighter than when they arrived. And that’s after a hearty meal and a cocktail.

I’m also excited to be part of a team where we can truly play in the sandbox together. Everyone here is not only experienced and capable but also wildly imaginative. Brainstorming menus, planning events and dreaming up new ways to use the space has completely reinvigorated me — and I can’t wait for you to see what’s coming.

Catch you soon.
